The Rotary Club of Montserrat is pleased to advise that thanks to pledges and contributions received to date; the sum of US$5000 Dollars has been dispatched to Haiti. The funds received so far by Rotary International District 7020 of which Haiti forms a part off, are being used within Haiti to enable Rotarians to carry out relief efforts on the ground and to fund the cost of supplies and the transportation of air and sea shipments into Haiti.

Rotarians on the ground in Haiti have requested specific medical supplies and the assistance of doctors, nurses and orthopedic specialist.  To date thanks to the regional efforts, Rotary has sent approximately 50,000 lbs of medical supplies into Haiti, much of it purchased with the relief funds received and with these funds have also been able to facilitate the travel of doctors and other medical support personnel into Haiti.  Blankets, food, water and generators are currently on route to Haiti as requested and the first Shelter Boxes arrived in Haiti on Tuesday.   The Rotarians in Haiti are concentrating on providing support in the areas where the larger relief agencies have not been able to reach, thus avoiding wastage and duplication of efforts.

The Rotary Club of Montserrat thanks the Montserrat Community for its support thus far; the relief in Haiti will be a long process and the Rotary Club of Montserrat looks forward to continued support towards this relief effort and advises that account 7176241 at Royal Bank of Canada is available to receive donations to this cause.
